Challenge Description

Phase I: All Applicants

  • Define an optimization problem of your choice. (e.g., supply chain routing, energy distribution, weather pattern detection, etc.)
  • Briefly explain how you will translate the problem into a quantum algorithm. (e.g., Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm, Variational Quantum Eigensolver, etc.)
  • Describe your plan for creating quantum circuits that will implement the chosen quantum algorithm.
  • Submit your proposal. Judges will select winners and grant hardware to teams.

Phase II: Winning Applicants

  • Implement your chosen quantum algorithm and run the quantum circuits (via simulations).
  • Use classical optimization techniques to refine the quantum approach. (BONUS points for techniques that employ machine learning to optimize parameters, reduce noise, or improve convergence rates of the quantum algorithm).
  • Analyze the outputs to extract meaningful patterns.
  • Submit your results. Judges will select final winners for presentation to a global audience.

Application Process

  • Provide a team bio highlighting the expertise and roles of each member.
  • Include any preliminary research or data supporting your proposal.
  • Qualify and receive hardware, then begin to work on project.

Eligibility

  • Open to students, faculty, and researchers affiliated with HBCUs.
  • Teams must consist of 2-5 members.
  • Projects must focus on innovative solutions in education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, or related social-impact fields.
